History

Of the many native red grape wines recently revived in Italy, Sagrantino di Montefalco - Ombrie's flagship wine - is one of the most distinctive. With its impressive complexity and longevity, it has the qualities to become the region's most famous wine, despite the fact that this low-yielding Sagrantino grape makes up a mere 6% of Ombrie's total wine production.

Winemaking

Made in the secco style, from 100% Sagrantino, hand-picked from estate vineyards planted at high density. The grapes are macerated with the skins for as long as four weeks, in order to obtain the greatest flavour concentration and colour extraction. The wine is aged for 18 months in new and two year old French barriques, followed by one year in the bottle for extra refinement and smoothness.

Colour

Deep ruby red in colour.

Nose

Freshly picked berry notes on the nose and palate, colored with floral and mineral notes.

Palate

Full-bodied, with a good balance of fruit and oak pushing through the velvety palate and giving some good length. Beautifully balanced and refined for Sagrantino.

Food pairings

Recommended with rich pastas, grilled meats, and medium-aged cheese.
